If you want to know how carefully a set was checked, look at the stairs. A stair touches the plan, two or three sections, a detail, the structure and half a dozen rules, all in a few square metres.

The usual suspects

A riser height that worked on the plan stops working when the floor build-up changes. Headroom is fine in the section that was drawn and wrong in the one that was not. Guarding heights differ between the detail and the elevation.

None of these are hard to check. They are just tedious, and they move every time something else moves.

Check them last, and again

We suggest checking stairs after every change to floor levels or finishes, not only once at the end. It is the cheapest insurance in the whole set.
